Process4Planet Projects & H4Cs Forum - Parallel session 1. Emissions Reduction

Format:In-person
Location:Baekeland
22 participants

Projects:

1) CO2MOS - Richard Heyn, SINTEF

COZMOS is an EU-funded project that aims to provide breakthrough technology for the conversion of CO2 to C3 fuels and chemical building blocks. This will be achieved through the cooperative development, demonstration and exploitation of innovative catalyst and process technologies that will overcome the thermodynamic limitations inherent in the use of CO2 as a sustainable source for these value-added products.

2) INITIATE - Soledad van Eijk, TNO

The INITIATE project, funded by the Horizon 2020 EU program, will advance the implementation of circular economy, industrial symbiosis and carbon capture and utilisation technologies (CCU) by re-using residual steel gases as a resource for the cross-sectorial, more efficient and less wasteful manufacture of urea, at a significantly reduced carbon footprint.

3) LEILAC2 - Luisa Serrano, CALIX-EUROPE

The Calix process changes the existing process flows of a traditional calciner by indirectly heating the limestone via a special reactor. This unique system enables pure CO2 to be separated and captured as it is released from the limestone. LEILAC operates, in principle, with the same specific energy as conventional plant. Unlike other carbon capture technologies, the new process does not involve any additional processes or chemicals. The first LEILAC project sought to apply this technology to the cement sector. This successor project, LEILAC2, which started in 2020, is applying the technology at a larger scale and will address the major remaining hurdles.

4)CO2Fokus - Vesna Middelkoop, VITO

CO2Fokus is a European project funded under the Horizon2020 program to convert and recycle industrial carbon dioxide into DME. Designing cutting-edge technologies to convert CO2 produced in large industrial plants, into Dimethyl Ether (DME), an organic gas with high added value with characteristics similar to LPG and widely used in the chemical industry.
