Origin by Ocean is a algae biorefining startup founded in 2019 and is based in Espoo, Finland. Origin by Ocean’s patented biorefining process enables the extraction of multiple valuable bio-based chemicals and algae biomass feed suitable to use for animal feed from harvested invasive algae and ecologically farmed seaweed while addressing the eutrophication of the ocean through nutrient removal capacity. The bio- and algae-based products with low carbon footprint substitute conventional and often high carbon footprint oil-based synthetic chemical ingredients and additionally, these ingredients bring new functionalities, performance and bioactivity in food & beverage, cosmetics, hygiene, home and personal care, textiles and many other goods and materials. We have designed our value chain to be regenerative, meaning that operations have an improving impact for the environment and society. Origin by Ocean’s operations do more good than harm both at the upstream of our value chain by utilizing regenerative brown algae as feedstock and at the downstream by decoupling animal feed from land-use and substituting oil-based ingredients with bio-based in many industries.
