Navigating Security Challenges: The Future of marine infrastructure in European Seas
- Security & Defense
The current EU economy relies heavily on the safety and security of its seas, yet faces mounting strategic competition for power and resources, particularly in the Baltic Sea region. As the deployment of marine installations increases in EU waters, concerns arise regarding the vulnerability of critical infrastructure, emerging conflicts arising from competition for space, and environmental risks. Moreover, the potential for innovative marine multifunctional or decentralized solutions to meet critical societal needs may be impeded by these geopolitical tensions.
Considering these challenges, there is a pressing need for an informal regional dialogue platform to address the complex issues affecting European seas. Such a platform would foster collaboration, facilitate dialogue, prevent conflicts, promote innovation, and enhance transboundary marine governance. This session aims to explore the potential of such a platform, with a tentative focus on its role in promoting sustainable and secure utilization of marine resources for the benefit of current and future generations.
