Artur Varanda

Captain Artur Varanda is a Project Officer for Robotics and Autonomous Systems at the Army Centre for Experimentation and Technological Modernisation. An Artillery Officer by training, he is a graduate of the Portuguese Military Academy and holds a Master’s in Geographic Information Systems and Science from the Nova University of Lisbon, where he is also an invited lecturer for Text Mining at the Bachelor’s degree in Data Science program. His current posting immediately followed a tour as Officer Commanding of a Ground-Based Air Defence Battery. Besides being a Project Officer at the “Remote and Autonomous Systems” project, he contributes to the “Short-Range Air Defence” and “Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems” modernisation programs. Lastly, as a researcher, he is a member of a Defence project to develop an open-source monitoring and analysis system to support situational awareness.
