Boštjan Koritnik
Deputy Mayor
City of Ljubljana
Ljubljana, Slovenia
About me
Boštjan Koritnik is a city councillor on the Mayor Zoran Janković List and deputy mayor of Ljubljana from 2022, where he is in charge of digitization and education. As Boštjan is a non-professional deputy mayor, he is also employed at the Faculty of Law of the University Ljubljana, where he is a researcher, teaching assistant and head of the public relations department.
Boštjan is a bachelor of law and before becoming the deputy mayor, served as the Minister of Public Administration, where he was in charge, among other things, of local self-government, public procurement, informatics and the information society, as well as real property. During his career, he was a stock market commentator, a journalist of the economic newsroom of Delo, an in-house lawyer and later CEO of GV Založba, co-director and editor-in-chief of Ius Software, president of the appeals tribunal of the ABA basketball league, member of the council of the Institute for Constitutional Law, procurator of the Institute of Comparative Law at the Faculty of Law. He was the COO of the Law Faculty of the University of Ljubljana for five years, worked with three crypto companies and is still a partner in several start-up companies. Since 2008 he has also held various roles in associations and other non-governmental organizations: among others, he is the general secretary of the Association of Lawyers of Slovenia, treasurer of the Associations for Economic Law of Slovenia, president of the tribunal of the Student Organization of Slovenia, member of the board of directors of the Lawyer Sports Association and president of the Association for Sports Law. He is also the expert editor of the oldest Slovenian scientific journal Pravnik (published since 1862), the editor of the scientific journal Javna uprava and the editor of the professional legal e-magazine TFL Glasnik.
Even though Boštjan is a lawyer by education, he is an entrepreneur at heart and a lover of psychology, sports and imparting knowledge to himself and others. At the Faculty of Law, students transfer their knowledge of legal writing and research, and he lectures regularly to students of various faculties around Slovenia, especially on the topic of the importance of social and emotional intelligence for career success, as well as romantic scams and artificial intelligence. His favourite word is "why", characterized by boundless curiosity, and his central motto is: "A man learns all his life, but still dies a fool."
