About me
Dr. Delvina Japhet Tarimo is an honored Alexander von Humboldt Fellow and a research scientist at the INM—Leibniz Institute for New Materials in Saarbrücken, Germany. With five years of experience in energy storage systems, including batteries and supercapacitors, Dr. Tarimo is a dedicated professional in her field. She specializes in producing and testing innovative materials and chemistries to enhance charge storage capacity, charge/discharge rates, lifespan, energy, and power density.
Dr. Tarimo possesses profound technical expertise in electrochemistry, data analysis, material science, and various analytical techniques. Her skills include laboratory and project management, revolutionary technology, and effective communication of research findings. Her contributions involve advancing sustainable energy and tackling critical challenges in energy storage systems while minimizing carbon footprints. She is currently working on a collaborative, multinational research project to develop and analyze properties and electrochemical testing of advanced materials for high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries.
Dr Tarimo earned her PhD in Physics (materials science for energy storage) at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and her MSc in Physics (materials science) at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She has experience supervising young scientists and actively participates in various scientific communities and conferences.
In 2023, she won the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Award for her invention research of using biomass from cooked chicken bone wastes for supercapacitor applications. She is currently extending the idea to other energy storage applications. Other research-related awards include:
-
University of Pretoria Co-Funded Postdoctoral Award (2022).
-
NRF-SARChI Chair Grant holder linked Postdoctoral Funding, Grant No. 61056 (2021).
-
Award of University of Pretoria Vice Chancellor Congress Funding (2022).
-
Special International Research Award and University of Pretoria Postgraduate Research Support (2020).
-
Award of AGNES-PAWS Mobility Grant for Junior Researchers (2019).
-
NRF-SARChI Chair Grant holder linked Doctoral Bursary, Grant No. 61056 (2020).
-
Best postgraduate research project 2017/2018 (2nd Prize winner), University of Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (2018).
