The Mix-Matters European project aims to valorize mixed bio-waste streams (unsold fruit and vegetables) from the agri-food industry. It is integrated into a complex ecosystem involving various stakeholders along the value chain of bio-based products. This workshop is part of the project's multi-actor engagement strategy. The objectives are to address policy and governance aspects as well as technological challenges. We will explore current policies related to bio-waste and byproduct revalorization, showcase innovative policy approaches, and discuss regulatory gaps and potential solutions to enhance the regulatory framework. Regarding the technological aspect of the project, we will present current practices of bio-waste valorization, with a focus on food applications. The goal is to examine available technologies and innovations, as well as technical challenges and future prospects.
