Pitot Guardian®

Problem: Pitot-static systems provide a measurement of the airspeed, a very critical parameter for the pilot.  Pitot tube obstruction is a very frequent issue (from icing, insects, etc.), causing aborted take-offs, emergency landing, and unfortunately also some fatal accidents (several hundreds people died so far).  Pitot Guardian® is the only technical solution to inform pilots before a take off or during a flight if the pitots are functional.

Solution: Pitot Guardian® (protected by two patents) and is a standalone device capable of detecting obstruction of Pitot tubes used in commercial aviation, both for new and existing airplanes, and in any other class of aircraft.  There is no similar solution on the market, despite several attempts performed by other companies in the last 15 years.

Status: The concept has been validated with three prototypes successfully tested in operating conditions under extreme environmental conditions, including random vibrations up to 32 gRMS (way beyond required levels!), icing chambre, and wind tunnel up to 300 knots (155 m/s), always detecting all obstructions created by the operator with no false positives.  The device has been then simplified to the bare bone (in particular, by removing software functionalities) to reduce the certification complexity.

Go to market: In addition to advertising Pitot Guardian® to the professional pilot associations, airlines, OEMs and their suppliers, we are now starting to coordinate with the authorities (EASA & FAA ) to assess the Pitot Guardian® as part of the pitot system with target to get the product certified for all commercial aircrafts (CS/FAR 25). We are planning to be certified as a Design Organization and will rely on already certified manufacturers for the production.
