About

The Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA) is a prominent educational institution in Bavarian Swabia, serving approximately 7,500 students across seven faculties.  THA is renowned for its practical approach to education, emphasizing applied sciences and technology.

A key area of THA's expertise lies in energy storage technologies, particularly in lithium-ion batteries and hydrogen storage using metal hydrides. The Multiphysical Energy Storage Laboratory (MEL), led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Valerio Conte, conducts cutting-edge research in this domain. The MEL team focuses on aging assessment, lifetime forecasting, and the development of non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasound and impedance spectroscopy for advanced monitoring of energy storage systems.

THA's commitment to innovation is further demonstrated through its Institute for Technology and Knowledge Transfer (ITW). The ITW serves as a central hub for application-oriented research, offering consulting services and fostering research collaborations with industry partners. This institute plays a pivotal role in translating scientific findings into practical applications, thereby driving technological advancements and economic growth.

The university's interdisciplinary approach is evident through the synergies between its various faculties, including Mechanical Engineering, Environmental and Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics, Computer Science, Economics and Social Sciences. This collaborative environment enables THA to address complex challenges in energy storage and innovation from both technical and socio-economic perspectives.

In summary, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg stands as a dynamic institution dedicated to advancing energy storage solutions and fostering innovation. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and strong industry partnerships, THA effectively bridges the gap between academic research and practical application, making significant contributions to technological progress and economic development.
