James Johnstone

James supports and guides the AMD R&D team in delivering the overall technical plan for the company and ensuring that delivery of projects is maintained whilst seeking maximum value and suitable exit points. He also oversees the protection of IPR across the portfolio of projects and continues to be involved with defining and executing streamlined business processesses.

He has over twenty years’ experience in science and innovation in the field of advanced materials and nanotechnology. He specialises in working with small companies onward application through industry relevant processing techniques during the last eleven years at the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI). James was also a senior bids manager who wrote, advised and taught UK and European companies on the practical benefits of public research and essential value propositions which successful proposals are based on. He has direct team experience of delivering over 15 successful bids from start to contract and raising substantial funding for partners and balancing collaborative interests with organisational ambition. He brings a wealth of experience managing projects as well as providing more informal innovation support where required.
