About

S2AQUA is a collaborative laboratory with a view towards innovation for a sustainable and smart aquaculture. Our main areas of expertise focus primarily aquaculture product optimization and research on bioindicators of animal health and welfare.

S2AQUA research expertise includes specific topics such as:

a)    broodstock selection and management

b)    larval and juvenile supply

c)    feeding and nutritional requirement optimization

d)    seaweed production

e)    Molecular biology and genetics. Methodologies to improve aquaculture practises (approaches to identify and select relevant breeders and batches, and the use of fish microbiome). Gene expression.

f)     Monitoring diseases and disorders

g)    Use of in vitro systems for aquaculture development (including cell line repository for toxicologic pathology and nutritional aquaculture)

h)    Implementation of in vivo fish models to accelerate aquaculture research.

i)     Use of multi-sensor approaches and data analysis (remote sensing, modelling, etc) for offshore aquaculture monitoring and forecasting.

S2AQUAcoLAB is also experienced with training activities to address the needs of the related aquaculture industry.
