CM2026-10: Make Smart Buildings Become Smart Grid Assets (B2G)

Gerald Franzl

senior researcher at University for Continuing Education Krems - Department for Integrated Sensor Systems

Wiener Neustadt, Austria

About

Forward the individual/aggregated flexibility of diverse building based assets and appliances - covering anything from one or more PV inverters to several HVAC systems and behind the meter EV charging - to flexibility users, aggregators and markets - as required to achieve a high Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) rating.

Design and evaluate a unified interface box that comprises smart communication parsing and merging features required to uniformly present executable flexibilities according to the FlexOffer Specification v1 (https://github.com/flexoffer/flexoffer-specifications/blob/300520400471f60bba4288292c8a37c0b50f8807/FlexOffer%20specificationV1_with%20cover.pdf)) to both, distribution system operators and flexibility traders (aggregators) on some energy market places.

Add autonomous building and occupant comfort centric features that enable efficient demand response functionality, e.g., response to price and/or traffic light signals, which effectively utilises the implicit flexibility volumes that cannot be assured and sold ahead of time alike explicit FlexOffers.

A flexibility integration box is a novel concept (TRL2/3) yet to be approved by trial evaluation for realistic scenarios (TRL4/5). As far as possible within the project duration, it shall also be tested in the Austrian Living Lab "InnoLab W4" [https://reallaborw4.at/].
