CM2024-06: Renewable Heat & Cooling Communities

About

The RED II (DIRECTIVE (EU) 2018/2001) enables the peer members of a renewable energy community (REC) to jointly produce, share, store, and sell, any form of renewable energy, not only electricity.

In the course of the transnational project, solutions to effectively and fairly share renewable heating and cooling appliances shall be designed, evaluated, and where possible within project duration, also tested. Applicability and hindrances of different regulatory frameworks shall be assessed, and where yet legally possible, business cases evaluated or proposed respectively.

The evaluated solutions shall range from systems jointly owned by direct neighbours up to municipal and urban heat distribution and absorption. Technology wise, the solutions shall cover heat-pump based systems, combined heat and power assets, seasonal high/low temperature district heating, as well as anergy networks (5th generation district heating and cooling).

The application of these existing technologies for the novel energy sharing enabled by RED II, shall be raised from TRL3 to TRL4.
