Clean Hydrogen Technologies & Hydrogen Value Chain & Industrial Use Case

Operating four oil refineries with a total of 30 million tons annual crude oil processing capacity, Tüpraş is the first producer in Turkey’s refining sector and largest industrial enterprise of the country. Green hydrogen production is a focus area for Tüpraş to decrease carbon footprint of its products. Starting with a 20 MW capacity and increasing it by aiming to meet the target of 1.5 GW in total, Tüpraş is seeking for potential collaboration opportunities for various capacities and considering investments on emerging technologies which will serve as a trigger in value chain in Turkey. Considering the plans of Tüpraş to supply hydrogen for the transportation sectors and re-electrification processes (self-substantiality) with suitable partners, the "clean hydrogen" concept of the projects and Tüpraş's competencies are in the same line. By the same token, Tüpraş is Turkish refinery member of “Hydrogen Europe” as of April 2022, in line with its own aforementioned targets regarding the green hydrogen concept.

• Tüpraş can be involved in a consortium as an end-user by guiding and testing the developing technology.

• Tüpraş can contribute to potential project by bringing use case scenarios and help to determine key inputs on the functional specifications and design choices.

• Tüpraş can guide and advise the consortium when it comes to technology testing.

• Tüpraş can create a refinery application area by opening its field to a water electrolyzer (regardless of technology difference) whose production phase has been completed. It can provide carbon emission differential data at the initial stage. It can undertake operational production and open its field to support green hydrogen production in the multi-geographic hydrogen value chain.

• Tüpraş can provide large scale pilot demonstrations in oil and gas sector.

• Tüpraş can create laboratory scale tests simulating the real environment.
