About

SD Wind Energy (SDWE) is a progressive global market leader for small scale wind turbines and hybrid renewable energy systems. Offering 3kW to 12kW options, our robust high performing turbines have been proudly manufactured in Scotland since the 1980s, and we continue to develop our product offering and solutions.

Our unique delta rotor design means our turbines do not have to be put on brake when experiencing high winds, but also work effectively even at Class 1 wind speeds with power generation from 2.5m/s. This unique design means SDWE can provide a robust value proposition, offering dependable renewable energy solutions to meet a variety of client needs. Our core product range comprises of our SD3 (3kW rated), SD3EX (2.5kW rated and ATEX Zone 2 Certified), SD6 (6kW rated and MCS Certified), SD6+ (9kW rated) and SD12 (15kW rated) tied into the grid, or as a component of a hybrid energy system. SDWE offer proven solutions for remote, hazardous, marine, and extreme cold environments in addition to our core product offering.

Investment in innovation and fostering the development of key skills in house enables us to challenge the industry norms and develop innovative and bespoke solutions incorporating real time performance data. The SDWE Team are expert in the design, manufacture and installation of our small wind turbine and renewable energy solutions and can adapt to suit any project requirement. We are proud to have retained staff long term, now exceeding 20 years of service, developing core capabilities in house. This leads to an enhanced product offering and the best value proposition for our clients. Development of our product offering and incorporation of data monitoring software results in a low servicing requirement on our renewable energy systems with a visual inspection after one year, then servicing every two years.

Our small wind turbines are applicable in a vast field of applications due to their robust design and adaptability to existing renewable energy systems. Previous projects have involved the development of mini grids incorporating solar and battery technology in the small isles of Scotland; off grid platforms reaching from the North Sea to the gulf of Thailand; installations at new build schools and council buildings across the UK; installations on remote mountain tops in the UK and Europe such as telecom stations in Greenland; to multiple installations in the extreme cold of scientific research centres in Antarctica and in the Arctic Circle.
