Leading projects at Fraunhofer IFF, I specialize in renewable energy, microgrids, and Net-Zero-Energy systems, driving sustainable innovation across Europe.

About

As a researcher and project leader at the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF in Magdeburg, Germany, my work is deeply rooted in the field of renewable energy systems. I specialize in optimizing microgrids, developing energy storage solutions, and advancing Net-Zero-Energy concepts.

With a Master’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Bari and a PhD from the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, my academic journey has been focused on pushing the boundaries of sustainable energy. Since 2011, I have been leading a team at Fraunhofer IFF, where I have spearheaded numerous interdisciplinary projects, including initiatives on digital twin technology, circular economy models, and blockchain applications in industrial systems. A significant achievement in my career has been the development of the 'Net-Zero-Energy Factory' concept, which has substantially contributed to advancing research in sustainable energy solutions.

Beyond my role at Fraunhofer IFF, I serve as a chief researcher at the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Science, where I focus on the decarbonization of historical cities and regions. My passion for education also drives me to lecture at various universities, including the Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel and the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg.

I am actively involved in international working groups and committees, such as CIGRE and ERA-NET SES Knowledge Community, where I collaborate on shaping global standards and advancing research in energy storage and system flexibility. My career has been marked by the publication of over 100 scientific articles, contributing to the global dialogue on renewable energy and sustainability. Through my work, I am committed to driving innovation and fostering collaboration to address the critical energy challenges of our time.
