About

We are a team of MEng Civil Engineering students committed to engineering a sustainable future. We propose an innovative project to harness geothermal energy from abandoned mine water for low-carbon district heating systems. By utilizing existing gravity-fed mine water discharge points, we aim to reduce environmental impact and costs compared to conventional drilling methods. Our objectives include conducting a feasibility study, developing a sustainable heating network, and collaborating with local authorities and industry partners to support Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategies (LHEES). This project aligns with the CETPartnership Joint Call 2024 by promoting innovation in low-carbon technologies and advancing the Technology Readiness Level of mine water heat extraction. We are seeking partners with expertise in geothermal energy, district heating systems, environmental impact assessment, and energy policy to join us in turning abandoned mines into valuable resources for sustainable energy.
