Bastas Cement is one of the two integrated cement plants (Bastas and Konya Cement Plants) of VICAT Group located in Turkey. Bastas Cement has 2.6 million tons per year production capacity. Together with Konya Cement, Bastas Cement has supplemented its operations in Turkey with activities in ready-mixed concrete, aggregate and lime by operating 35 concrete batch plants, 7 aggregate quarries and 1 lime production plant. Bastas Cement is one the leading cement plants in terms of using alternative fuels (up to 80% in mass) such as RDF (Refuse-derived fuel) and shredded/whole tyres. Also Bastas Cement produces blended cements with around 80% clinker. The replacement of clinker, of which production process is responsible for the major part of CO2 emissions, allows to reduce CO2 footprint. As the cement industry is responsible for about 8% of total CO2 emissions in the world, Bastas Cement pays special attention on reducing CO2 footprint and protecting natural resources. Bastas Cement aims to be a part of developing green technologies and techniques by participating national and international research and innovation projects as industrial partner to make research, demonstration at TRL5-9, end product design, quality and performance tests and dissemination activities. In the scope of innovation projects and for modernization of the facilities and technologies, Bastas Cement focuses on CCUS, Circular Economy, Sustainability, Digital Transition and Renewable Energy subjects as an existing part of circular economy and existing user of Automation/Tracing Systems and Waste Heat Recovery systems on production process. Bastas has participated several projects and proposals in the scope of Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, Era-NET and SPIRE so far. As an industrial partner with the experienced researcher team, Bastas Cement brings added value to the projects by merging its industrial capability and experience, with the culture of R&D and the vision of Innovation.

About me

I am a senior researcher and R&D leader working in cement industry with 9 years of proven track record of working mostly in EU funding projects. I have deep knowledge and experience on cement production process, material examinations, efficiency increasing, cost and CO2 footprint reduction of products and processes; developing project ideas, establishing consortiums by my broad professional network (500+ entities from 32 countries), project submission and management, budget preparation, writing deliverables, finalising projects, publishing academic papers, IPR and certification / standardisation management through sustainability strategy. I am proud to be as one of the 24 certified EU Projects expert among TÜBİTAK Information Multipliers.

Also, I have solid knowledge and experience on lab management and analysing raw material, clinker, cement, aggregate and concrete, especially Rietveld and clinker microscopy analyses.

Besides my professional experiences, I have a master’s degree from Hacettepe University, Institute of Science and Technology Geological Engineering Department on Geostatistics field (2D and 3D modelling basis on block kriging method) and I am a Ph.D. candidate studying at Gazi University, Faculty of Technology Civil Engineering Department on Material Science field studying on my thesis about “CO2 sequestering novel low carbon cement production”. My next achievement will be MBA, following my Ph.D graduation.
