SOCAR R&D and Innovation was incorporated in 2019 with a view to rendering SOCAR Turkey and group companies with R&D services. SOCAR R&D’s purpose of incorporation is to create innovative, sustainable, environment-friendly and market-oriented products, processes, catalyst and digital technologies, improve and develop production processes for all stakeholders in the value chain in line with SOCAR Turkey’s vision of “creating an integrated energy business that adds value to all stakeholders in an economically and socially responsible way.” Committed to using its 51 years of R&D experience to help all its stakeholders achieve their respective visions, SOCAR R&D was licensed on June 13th, 2020 by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Industry and Technology. Situated on the Aliağa Refinery and Petrochemical Business Unit premises, SOCAR R&D Center renders services at its 6 labs, pilot facilities and offices built on an area of 1,200 m2 with its 24 researchers with postgraduate and PhDs. Its fields of activity include catalyst research, green chemistry, sustainable, clean and efficient energy, value-added products, energy transition, digitalization and environmental solutions. The open innovation model SOCAR R&D adopts allows it to engage in strong industry-academia collaborations. In line with the awareness of all our group companies operating across the energy, refinery and petrochemical chain of their environmental responsibility, SOCAR R&D is committed to taking part in R&D and innovation projects as a part of Horizon 2020-European Green Deal Call, which strives to ensure the European Union’s transition into a carbon-free economy by 2050. SOCAR R&D is currently involved in 2 EU projects in the field of Horizon 2020 -Carbon Capture, Storage and Utilization (CCSU), while NEFERTITI –yet another SOCAR R&D project under the Horizon-2020 fund aimed at producing precious chemicals from solar energy– was launched in 2021.
