Luis Caballero

PhD in Physics and Senior Scientific Researcher at the Instituto de Física Corpuscular , joint centre between the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Valencia, with more than 15 years of experience developing medical imaging equipment.

After my PhD I was hired at ONCOVISION (a spin-off company of the CSIC-UV) both as CTO and project manager to develop a portable gamma camera for intraoperative use and for the development of a PET system dedicated to breast).

I have a long track record in the development of gamma and neutron radiation measurement devices based on advanced nuclear physics instrumentation applied both in cutting-edge experiments in basic research on nuclear structure in international centres and laboratories (CERN, GANIL, etc.) and in its application to the fields of the nuclear industry, medical physics or the development of detectors for the study of space weather.

I currently lead projects at the Instituto de Fisica Corpuscular (CSIC-UV) developing devices for the detection of gamma rays for cancer biopsy, and for the optimization of the classification of radioactive waste generated in the dismantling tasks of nuclear power plants. He also leads the development of the LEON detector: an ultra-compact neutron detection system for the measurement of radiation in low orbits in nanosatellites (POLITECH-1 mission). 

I am co-inventor of 5 patents in the field of medical imaging and gamma ray and neutron detection devices with extensive experience in the transfer of scientific results to companies. I have participated as a researcher in many regional, national and international collaboration projects.
