EMODnet Open Conference 2025
25 November 2025 - 26 November 2025
Welcome to EMODnet Open Conference 2025
The European Marine Observation Data Network (EMODnet) is proud to host its fourth EMODnet Open Conference, "EMODnet: An essential marine data service of the European Ocean Pact", on 25-26 November 2025 at Nhow Hotel in central Brussels, Belgium. This flagship EMODnet event gathers the EMODnet community of over 130 partners, 36 associated partners and EMODnet's diverse stakeholders across the in situ marine knowledge value chain to showcase EMODnet's latest marine service offer.
This Open Conference (OC) 2025 takes place during an "EU Marine Knowledge week" offering a unique opportunity to explore EMODnet’s central role in the EU Marine Knowledge Landscape and its growing contribution to the European Ocean Pact, supporting EU policy implementation and how EMODnet's marine knowledge is used to boost a more competitive, green and restorative Blue Economy. And it takes place at a pivotal time for ocean policy, with the launch of the European Ocean Pact in June 2025 and at the mid-point of key EU (e.g., Mission: Restore our Ocean and waters; Biodiversity 2030) and global (e.g., UN Ocean Decade) frameworks.
Sessions will explore EMODnet's role supporting the EU Ocean Observation Initiative, including a showcase of EMODnet's diverse in situ marine data providers from across the European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) community. An EMODnet for EU Policy session will discuss how EMODnet's marine knowledge provides the evidence-base to support implementation of EU ocean and environmental policy, from the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and the Maritime Spatial Planning Directive, to the Nature Restoration Law and EU obligations to global treaties including the 'High Seas treaty' Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction, among others. EMODnet's role as the in situ marine data component of the European Digital Twin Ocean will be showcased at the back-to-back Digital Ocean Forum which directly follows the EMODnet OC.
The community will also present the EMODnet Vision 2035, a community-led initiative, to be launched by mid-November 2025, which sets recommendations on EMODnet’s service evolution over the next decade, highlighting the opportunity for EMODnet to deliver its full potential through strengthened investment and priority setting, for example in expanding its service offer to further support EU Member States with their marine knowledge needs spanning it's seven thematics and more than 60 parameters, across spatial and temporal scales, coastal and inland waters, and the land-sea interface.
Join us in Brussels and be part of EMODnet's future evolution!
