Description:

The workshop seeks to highlight lessons drawn from projects in various sectors that can help the emissions reduction and energy efficiency effort in fisheries and aquaculture. This supports the aims of the 2023 European Commission Communication on the energy transition in fisheries and aquaculture, which highlights the need to exploit ‘synergies by design’ on technology uptake, energy production, and energy use. This requires strong cooperation across stakeholders including (i) the fisheries and aquaculture sector; (ii) shipbuilders; (iii) infrastructure in ports; (iv) scientists; (v) ocean-based renewable-energy systems and producers; (vi) the waterborne transport sector; and (vii) other alternative energy systems.
