Description:
Over the last decades, aquaculture has gained importance as a source of protein for the world growing population. Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) represent a great potential for their capacity to control rearing conditions, geographical flexibility and reduced environmental footprint. Nevertheless, there are still challenges to overcome and potential to implement circular practices in the RAS industry. In this workshop, we will discuss the state of play, good practice examples, and barriers for implementation of circular practices in recirculating aquaculture systems.
After a brief introduction, participants will be divided into four tables, each table will deal different topics related to circular practices in recirculating aquaculture: (1) water, (2), energy, (3) nutrients and (4) side-streams. In each group, it will be discussed the state of play, good practice
We will assign a lead for each group to guide the discussion. Group leads will come from different projects and companies working on these topics, representing different European countries and sea-basins.
