Ports development for sustainable blue economy - The examples of port of Hamburg and port of Venice
Ports are essential infrastructures of huge commercial and strategic importance, crucial for trade, economic development, and job generation within Europe. They are the beating heart of the maritime shipping industry.
In addition to providing traditional services such as cargo, logistics and hubs for the shipping industry, ports support a complex cross section of blue economy sectors - such as marine living and non-living resources, renewable energy, coastal tourism, maritime defence, security, and transportation - and facilitate the clustering of energy and industrial companies in their proximity.
Sustainability of port development, transformation into green energy hubs, port digitalisation, those are some of the key challenges that port authorities would need to address in order to become leaders in sustainability.
Representatives from the ports of Venice and Hamburg are here with us to share their experience and know-how.
