nextnano GmbH, based in Munich, Germany, is a spin-off from the Walter Schottky Institute of the Technische Universität München (former Chair for Theoretical Semiconductor Physics, emeritus Prof. Peter Vogl). Founded in 2012, nextnano develops and commercializes software for simulating electronic and optoelectronic semiconductor nanodevices. The software focuses particularly on the quantum mechanical properties of these devices, including nanotransistors, LEDs, laser diodes, photodetectors, quantum dots, nanowires, quantum cascade lasers, solar cells and qubits. The activities of nextnano GmbH are closely aligned with cutting-edge research. The vision of nextnano GmbH is to establish the nextnano software as the de facto standard simulator for the next generation of electronic and optoelectronic semiconductor nanodevices. To date, the company employs 8 full-time equivalent staff members and has been granted 6 prestigious EU research grants, and 1 national Grant over the past years.
