About me

Giovanni Lugaresi graduated as master in mechanical engineering at the Politecnico di Milano (Milano, Italy) in 2016. He obtained a PhD (cum laude) titled “Automated Generation and Exploitation of Discrete Event Simulation Models for Decision Making in Manufacturing” (Politecnico di Milano). In his PhD, he developed methods based on process mining for the automated generation of discrete event simulation models of manufacturing systems. In 2018 he co-founded the “THE FACTORY” laboratory in Politecnico di Milano, an innovative space based on the construction of lab-scale models of manufacturing systems using easy-to-access material such as LEGO® and Arduino. Today, he is Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at KU Leuven. His research focuses on production planning and control, smart manufacturing systems, digital twins, robust optimization for the design, development, and operation of innovative and sustainable production systems. He is track coordinator for the track “Simulation in Digital Twin” of the Winter Simulation Conference, and the track “Digital Twins for Smart Industrial Systems” at the ECMS International Conference on Modelling and Simulation. He is member of the Outreach Committee of INFORMS-Simulation (I-SIM).
