Carlos Figueiredo

Carlos Figueiredo is CEO and founder of Flainar, a deeptech startup that helps patients, healthcare providers and companies with cultural prescription as a therapeutic tool for mental health and well-being. Carlos has a degree/master’s in physics engineering (University of Coimbra) and a PhD in Digital Media (University of Porto & UT Austin-Texas). With more than 20 years’ experience working in different sectors, he co-founded Edit on Web (2003-2010, a web publishing portal on science and culture) and has a genuine interest for innovation, R&D, ICT and culture. With a strong human centric focus, Carlos is a people person and an enthusiast of creativity and social innovation. Through countless activities, volunteering and working for a better society he is delivering its cultural footprint in the neighborhood. For professional or academic reasons, he lived in Italy (Erasmus), Morocco (Cimpor), Ireland (various), Germany (Siemens) and USA (PhD), Spain (Research and business). He concluded that diversity and collaboration are a creative seed, looking at trees helps us understand resilience, and good collisions are a driver of entrepreneurship. In 2021-2023 Carlos collaborated as European project manager at UPTEC (The Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto) in the fields of Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI), Business acceleration and Innovation ecosystems.
