INEGI - Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering is a Research and Technology Organization from Porto, Portugal, and it is dedicated to research & development, innovation & technology transfer, consultancy and services activities, forming part of the University of Porto ecosystem. We are a private, non-profit entity of public interest, which supports the development of companies in general. Our expertise comprises many areas, such as mechanical design, aerospace, composite materials, biomechanics, environment, advanced manufacturing, management, energy, among others.

For the health and sports sector, INEGI specializes in biomechanics, medical technology, sports, and occupational health & safety. We apply skills in the electromechanical design of medical devices or sports equipment, from computational modelling to numerical simulation, including the study of the mechano-behavior of biotissues. We also design human-centered approaches to support companies in their evolution towards Industry 5.0 focusing, for example, on improving company productivity, based on the occupational health of its workers, providing personalized methodologies and metrics for internal management and increased production efficiency. Our projects for Artificial Intelligence tools development aim to support decision-making processes within the Health & Sports sector, for disease detection or injury prevention, for instance.
