About
Dağkapı – Gazi Yaşargil Education and Research Hospital Rail System Line spans 14.1 km and consists of 20 stations (19 central platforms + 1 side platform). The projected opening year is 2028, with an estimated daily passenger volume of 92,206 (both directions) and a peak hourly capacity of 8,478 (one direction). The project requires 36 tram vehicles (32 operational + 4 spare) for the 2028 launch.
The project was submitted for approval to the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure on January 18, 2022 (Document No: 54430) and was approved on May 5, 2023 (Document No: E-46325605-755.99-4434852). The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change ruled on February 18, 2022 (Document No: 49956952 220-02 E-202259) that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is not required. Additionally, the Diyarbakır Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued approval on February 8, 2022 (Decision No: 9044).
According to the feasibility report, the total cost (based on 2024 unit prices) is as follows:
Construction & E&M Works: $143,000,000
Vehicle Costs (per unit: $3,900,000): $140,400,000 (for 36 vehicles)
The project was included in the 2016 investment program under the code 2016E06-2654.
In the 2025 Presidential Investment Program, it is categorized under the TRANSPORT & COMMUNICATION – URBAN TRANSPORT sector as an ongoing project for Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality. The project is listed under the title "Diyarbakır-Gazi Yaşargil Tram Line", with rail system construction & electromechanical works (14.1 km) and 36 tram vehicles. The total investment amount is 13,111,637,000 TL, including 11,909,364,000 TL in external financing. The 2025 budget allocation is 3,572,871,000 TL, of which 2,977,393,000 TL is external financing.
