About me
Dr. Jürgen Schneider studied chemistry at the University of Vienna and successfully completed his diploma and doctoral studies there. After working as a university assistant, Dr. Schneider joined the Umweltbundesamt (Federal Environment Agency) in 1994, specifically in the former Department of Air Hygiene. From 2002 to 2004, Dr. Schneider worked as a project manager at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Bonn, Germany. He then returned to the Umweltbundesamt to lead the Department of Air Hygiene from 2004 to 2006. From 2007 to 2014, Dr. Schneider served as the head of the Economics & Impact Division at the Umweltbundesamt. Since 2011, he has been a managing director and a member of the executive board at the Umweltbundesamt from 2014 to 2017. From January to June 2018, Dr. Schneider was a spokesperson and a member of the extended management board at Umweltbundesamt GmbH. In addition, Dr. Schneider has been involved in numerous national and international committees on topics such as air pollution control, energy, and climate protection. He is a co-editor of the 1st Austrian Climate Assessment Report. Since November 9, 2020, Dr. Schneider has been the head of the Climate and Energy Section at the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation, and Technology.
