About

Dipl.-Ing. Cornelia Walch is the Group Sustainability Coordinator at ÖBB – the Austrian Federal Railways – in Vienna. She began her career at the ÖBB Group in 2017 and after working in the Department for Quality, Safety and Environment at ÖBB Infrastructure AG, she joined the Sustainability Team in the Department for Rail System and Technology at ÖBB-Holding AG in 2019.

Cornelia is responsible for the coordination of all sustainability related topics within the ÖBB Group. Together with representatives from the subsidiaries, Cornelia and her team have defined a Sustainability Strategy that encompasses an ecological, a social and an economic pillar and is divided into 17 building blocks, which are backed with targets.

Her responsibilities also include the preparation of the Group’s annual Sustainability Report that is being audited and published as part of the Annual Group Report, which is being done on a voluntary basis.

Education

Cornelia holds a Master’s degree (graduate engineering degree) in Industrial Environmental Protection from Montanuniversität Leoben.

ÖBB Group – Austrian Federal Railways

The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) are Austria’s largest mobility services provider. In 2023, ÖBB transported a total of 494 million passengers and over 78 million tons of goods to their destinations in a climate and environmentally friendly manner. The electricity for trains and stations is generated entirely from renewable energy sources. ÖBB is one of the most punctual railway operators in Europe, with a punctuality of around 95 per cent in passenger transport. With over EUR 4.5 billion invested annually in railway infrastructure, ÖBB is building the railway system of tomorrow. Across the Group, almost 45,000 bus and rail employees and an additional 2,000 apprentices ensure that up to 1.4 million passengers and over 1,000 freight trains arrive safely at their destinations every day.
