Simon Schmitz

Experienced entrepreneur and business leader, passionate about reducing GHG emissions. As an economist and philosopher by training, I am particularly fascinated by the power of collective learning to create impact. Over the last roughly 10 years, I have built up aWATTar, a 20m€ business (revenue target 2023) that is one of the leading innovators in the space of renewable energy tariffs in Austria and Germany. We are currently integrating aWATTar into tado° GmbH, a European leader in the bigger smart energy space, to further scale our impact. Before becoming an entrepreneur, I have successfully lead highly dynamic strategy teams that identified and defined new opportunities for E.ON, one of Europe's largest energy utilities. Before that, I spent 4 years at WBCSD, probably the first global green industry network, promoting the benefits of sustainable development to member companies, NGOs and governments alike, as well as shaping the business perspective on international climate policy. During that time, I was also fortunate enough to be one of the co-authors of the www.ghgprotocol.org Corporate Accounting Standard, which is still in use today.
