Enterprise and investment solutions to address humanitarian and planetary crisis: how to move from bean-counting to moon-shooting!
- Entrepreneurship
- Capital
Too often, the businesses that really matter - the ones solving the most pressing problems in the most challenging circumstances - are the ones that struggle most, especially with access to finance. What's more, there are many businesses that should exist, but don't.
Often, we focus too much on what's (potentially) profitable, scalable, investable… rather than asking HOW to make profitable, scalable, investable ... what is urgent, necessary, and morally unbearable to be left unaddressed and underfunded.
Let's discuss how to change that!
Join us for a conversation on how to direct entrepreneurial energy and investment finance to the blind spots: the people, places and topics that markets neglect and address roof-on-fire issues like the human cost of forced migration, or the nexus of security and “mainstream” impact topics such as climate, energy, migration, exclusion...
We will share learning from the first four years of piloting a refugee enterprise finance platform in Uganda, as well as our vision for a "humanitarian venture studio" to ideate, incubate, and scale businesses to address humanitarian and planetary crisis.
We are joined by Anette Msabeni from the International Federation of the Red Cross who will add the perspective of the World’s largest NGO network on how to mobilise enterprise and investment for impact, as well as Georg Woschnagg, a serial impact entrepreneur, who will talk about venture building for purpose.
