About

iBS.GRANADA is a Health Research Institute created on March 14, 2012, from a collaboration agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía, University of Granada, Andalusian Health Service and Public Foundation for Biosanitary Research in Eastern Andalusia – FIBAO.

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is composed of professionals from various branches of rehabilitation. This group of over 150 professionals works in a coordinated and collaborative manner, pursuing a common goal: the diagnosis, monitoring, prevention, and treatment of disability, all aimed at facilitating, maintaining, or restoring the highest degree of functional capacity and independence possible for patients. We have magnificent facilities and technology that is in line with the current social environment and the technological advancements we have experienced in recent years (constantly adapting to this scientific-technical evolution).

TECe20-Rehabilita-T: Advances and Innovation in Rehabilitation and Health Promotion is an emergent research group dedicated to advancing ongoing projects and incorporating new works in the coming years. Our first line of research focuses on telerehabilitation, leveraging technology to provide remote rehabilitation services and enhance patient access to care. The second line of research centers on functional assessment in rehabilitation, aiming to develop comprehensive tools and protocols to evaluate patients' functional capabilities and optimize treatment outcomes.

Description of the project: Given his interest in lifestyle behaviours and health, specially in pain populations, the candidate has expanded his new research line to other pain population, that is NSCLBP. LBP is among the most common health problems seen in primary care. In fact, it is estimated that 80% of the population has LBP at some time in their life, with 10-40% of them becoming a chronic problem. For this reason, it is necessary, from primary care, to treat these patients satisfactorily. The current projects are intended to offer insight into the effectiveness of resistance exercise on this population, as well as stablishing the associations of physical activity, sedentary behaviour and physical fitness with diverse health parameters in this population, which is currently unknown.

Description Principal Investigator: Dr. Víctor Segura-Jiménez (ORCID: 0000-0001-8655-9857). His research activities focus on physical activity and physical exercise therapy as a tool to improve public health.
