My organisation
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest university in Greece. The main campus is located in the center of the city of Thessaloniki, and covers an area of about 33.4 hectares. It comprises 10 faculties which consist of 40 schools and 1 single-School Faculty.
The mission of the Technology Transfer Office AUTH is to use and disseminate the University research results for the benefit of society, through procedures that are consistent with academic principles and codes of conduct. Its operational objectives are:
to provide support services to the Research Committee on information exchange between the University and industry in order to promote research results and the research potential of AUTh, to support the conversion of research results into patents, licenses and copyrights, and to promote their utilization;, to support the establishment of spin-offs and to enhance project implementation contracts on behalf of public and private sector organizations.
The Technology Transfer Office, independently or in cooperation with other AUTh departments, offers the following services:
- Assessing commercial interest in technological innovations;
- Financing the pre-commercial development of new technologies/products with commercial interest
- Identifying potential partnerships
- Protecting and managing Intellectual Property rights
- Supporting the establishment of Spin-offs and Startups
The AUTh Technology Transfer Office plays a pivotal role in connecting academic research with practical applications. It fosters the "Third Mission" of a university, emphasizing the use of research for societal and economic benefit. Key highlights:
Tech Transfer: The office facilitates the transfer of university research to society and industry.
Community Information: It educates the university community about the importance of the "Third Mission."
Academia-Industry Bridge: Serves as a liaison between academics and industry, promoting collaboration.
Spinoff Success: AUTh has created 17 spinoff companies, with a focus on health-related innovations like Captain Coach and Theta Biomarkers.
Patent Activity: Researchers at AUTh have secured 90 plus patents, with 55 currently active. These patents protect intellectual property and drive innovation.
