BATTERY RECYCLING CAPACITIES

Elisa Alarcón Arroyo

International R&D programmes at Fundación CARTIF

About

  • Manual dismantling of battery cells and study of scalability of disassembly down to current collector/foil level using collaborative robotics.

  • High ultrasonication delamination of active materials from the foils. It will also enable to recovery the current collector materials (Al and Cu). Moreover, study of the recovery of leached Lithium from the liquid phase for its re-use as secondary source of Li.

  • Separation of anode (graphite) and cathode active materials from black mass under Froth Flotation process. Study of the recovery of leached Lithium from the liquid phase for its re-use as secondary source of Li.

  • Chemical binder separation by organic solvents.

  • Material characterisation with different analysis techniques such as inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and Scanning Electron Microscopy - Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX).

  • Coordination of FREE4LIB EU project (GA 101069890).
