The Hereon Institute for Coastal Systems and Analysis conducts research from physical, ecological and socio-economic perspectives on coastal system change due to climate change and marine use. intensification. In the institute, prediction methods and future scenarios for coastal systems and their resources are developed using coupled complex mechanistic and statistical models, as well as state-of-the-art AI methods. This is accompanied by social science research aiming at understanding societal dimensions of marine use conflicts, in particular between offshore wind farms, fisheries and nature conservation and at understanding marine planning and governance processes.
