Removing Wrecks and Munitions from the Baltic

Location:Hall 2
  • Sustainable Maritime Infrastructure

European seas, including the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, are unique marine ecosystems with rich cultural heritage and history of maritime activities. Unfortunately, they are also home to numerous shipwrecks and underwater munitions, remnants of World Wars, which pose significant environmental, economic and safety risks. These wrecks and munitions can leak hazardous substances, such as oil and chemical warfare agents, threatening marine biodiversity, fisheries and human health.

The workshop aims to foster collaboration among stakeholders, showcase EU-funded projects and explore innovative solutions for the sustainable management of wrecks and munitions in European seas. By connecting the workshop to ongoing EU initiatives, such as Horizon Europe and the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership, we aim to highlight the importance of cross-border cooperation and knowledge sharing.
