Dominik Husmann
Scientist
Federal Institute of Metrology METAS
Bern, Switzerland
My background is in ultracold atomic systems. Now I am working on time and frequency in fiber optic networks, as wells as the Swiss national time scale UTC(CH).
About me
My scientifc roots as experimental physicist are in the field of ultracold atoms, where I completed my PhD on mesoscopic transport properties of strongly interacting Fermi gases of Lithium atoms.
Afterwards I joined the METAS Laboratory of Photonics, Time and Frequency as a scientist. Here my main task are the developement and operation of an ultrastable and accurate frequency dissemination service based on fiber optic networks. This includes expertise on the full measurement traceability chain of SI unit of the second: generation of International Atomic Time TAI, satellite comparisons of national time scales UTC(k), the Swiss national time scale UTC(CH) realized in our laboratory, state-of-the-art atomic clocks, as well as optical frequency standards referenced via optical frequency combs, and their dissemination via phase-stabilized fiber optic networks.
My organisation
METAS is where Switzerland is at its most accurate. It is so to speak the guardian of measurement units in Switzerland. Through its activities and its services, it ensures the capability to perform tests and measurements in Switzerland at the level of accuracy required to meet the needs of business, research and society.
