About me
Dr. López Carvallo is a dedicated professor at the Universidad Católica del Norte in Chile and currently collaborates with the Aquaculture-Homeopathy research group, led by Dr. Mazón Suástegui at the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas del Noroeste in La Paz, Mexico.
His primary research focus revolves around the application of high-diluted bioactive compounds to advance sustainable practices in the cultivation of aquatic organisms, with a particular emphasis on mollusks and shrimp. Dr. López's goal is to optimize the productivity parameters of these organisms while concurrently mitigating the risks associated with infectious diseases, all while ensuring minimal impact on both the cultured organisms and the surrounding environment. His extensive expertise spans the evaluation of various physiological aspects in aquatic organisms, encompassing reproduction, energetic metabolism, and immune response. He employs a diverse range of techniques such as functional genomics, histology, molecular analysis, and enzymatic activity assays to achieve comprehensive insights.
Recent research initiatives undertaken by Dr. López include the evaluation of high-diluted bioactive compounds for modulating the immune response of Catarina scallop (Argopecten ventricosus) juveniles. This comprehensive study included a de novo transcriptome profile analysis employing RNA-Seq technology, the validation of molecular-level biomarkers using real-time qPCR, and received honorable recognition at the X Ibero-American Forum on Marine Resources and Aquaculture. Dr. López is also a co-inventor of two patents related to HDBC and has contributed as reviewer for various journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR).
Furthermore, Dr. López is a member is a member of the National Research System of Mexico and the Baja California Sur State System of Researchers. Dr. López has published several manuscripts in JCR journals and has actively collaborated on various projects related to the cultivation of marine organisms with a focus on sustainable practices. Additionally, Dr. López-Carvallo has actively participated in thesis committees at the postgraduate level and has conducted classes for postgraduate students at both national and international levels.
Dr. López's primary research interest centers on unraveling the intricate interactions between high-diluted bioactive compounds and biological systems in aquatic organisms. His work contributes to advancing sustainable aquaculture practices while preserving the health of aquatic ecosystems.
