About
Mossakowski Medical Institute - PAS brought researchers together to explore the development, evolution, and disease of embryos and organs using the power of stem cells on June 27th, 2024.
Participating at the Polish - American Symposium was a great opportunity to catch up with the latest breakthroughs in stem cell technology and generation of tissue-specific cultures, and to deepen my knowledge about brain development. Most recent research is pointing out that the susceptibility to develop neuropsychiatric phenotypes is rooted in the development stages before gestation week 20 in humans, and mainly involves defects in the progenitor cells. Understanding the early stages of cellular differentiation may be a key factor to decipher the molecular mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric disorders. My current project aims to identify molecular pathways associated with stress in the central nervous system and involves generation of brain cells. Based on the knowledge that I gained from participating at the symposium, I intend to also focus on the intermediate stages of development besides the effect of stress on fully differentiated cells.
