Ute Franke

Ute is CEO and co-founder of 5micron GmbH, a Berlin-based tech company specializing in advanced sensor systems for critical infrastructure. With a background in engineering and over 20 years of industry experience, she leads innovation at the intersection of measurement technology, sensor fusion, and smart data systems.

Under her leadership, 5micron has developed ground-breaking solutions for monitoring railroads or gas tanks in their own end-to-end system network, using a self-sufficient telecommunications infrastructure and combining optical and acoustic principles with AI and multi-sensor connectivity. Their technologies transform physical environments into data-rich systems that enable real-time diagnostics and predictive maintenance.

Clients include Airbus, Rolls Royce, Linde and Worthington and notable systems as ePos (autonomous positioning system for e-busses - an award-nominated measurement system) and MOKE, a preservation tool for magnetic tapes. Franke’s commitment to cross-industry innovation continues to position 5micron at the forefront of intelligent infrastructure.

In addition to her technical leadership role, Ute is a committed advocate for diversity in the technology industry. She was a mentor for a female start-up program at Humboldt University for four years and is an active contributor to professional networks such as Women in Mobility, Women in Aerospace Europe and other cross-industry innovation circles.
