About
We have designed and Patented BIOPAP Genius Meal Tray® to make the Elderly homes and Hospital catering system simpler and more convenient to operate. However, applications can range from late/early Hotel meals to Co-working spaces, Travel catering and Event Catering.
The first aim was to get rid of the traditional and heavy rigid tray on which all food components are laid on to be carried. The rigid tray then that needs to be collected and washed up, after the service. We have engineered a self-supporting structure where food containers cooperate with a single top-sheet acting both as lid and connecting element. The 2 elements, food containers and top sheet are bonded together by heat-sealing creating a light but rigid structure.
The second aim was to embed multiple technical functionalities into the self-supporting structure: made out of renewable raw materials, withstanding high and low temperatures at the same time, being biodegradable and compostable to allow post-service collection and disposal together with food waste without separation.
The third aim was to have each single food compartment easily openable by the patient having the possibility to select the preferred sequence of the meal courses though keeping the remaining courses respectively warm or cold for a longer time.
BIOPAP® Genius Meal Tray® has 1 area for the warm meals and 1 area for cold meal components and for the accessories, all individually sealed and protected, for easy and safe manipulation during all steps.
The main driver of the development has been to improve resource management in the catering service and in patient’s care. The lower availability of skilled work force and the need of Care institutions to focus growing resources on personal care are pushing for re-engineering the catering service.
BIOPAP Genius Meal Tray® allow to streamline the operation in food preparation with a compostable, light and stiff meal tray that can be directly prepared and sealed in the central kitchen operating with the Cook & Chill process or Cook& Freeze process.
BIOPAP Genius Meal can be directly blast chilled, stored and then picked according to daily needs to fill Meal trolleys.
Being both Heat and Cold resistant, BIOPAP Genius Meal Tray® can be directly placed into double flow re-heating trolleys for chilled transport at destination.
Once transported to the Elderly House or Hospital, the Double-Flow Trolley filled with GENIUS Meal Tray® can be docked and reheated on the warm meal side according to the program whilst the chilled part of the meal is kept at 3-4°C.
Trolley can then be picked-up by care personnel and BIOPAP Genius Meal Tray® directly served to patients with part of the meal warm and part of the meal cold. Patients can open each meal course independently, in the desired sequence, though keeping the rest warm or cold.
After the service, BIOPAP Genius Meal Tray® can be collected with food waste and conveniently stacked to save space. Without separation the whole can be disposed to organic waste for composting though turning a waste into a valuable resource that can be used back to agriculture.
An efficient and circular system, enhancing local agriculture and helping farmers and local communities to fight against climate change, enriching soils with higher organic carbon, microorganisms and water retention.
