Packaging sustainability indicators traceability (CircularTrust digital product passport)

CircularTrust is a collaborative software that delivers digital product passports and traceability solutions through blockchain technology. The solution enhances transparency and sustainability in supply chains by ensuring the traceability and integrity of data throughout the product lifecycle—from manufacturing to final disposal. CircularTrust's unique approach includes the creation of a decentralized data ecosystem, verifiable digital identities and offers tailored support enterprises, ensuring that each collaborators specific needs are met. The solutions range from digital product passports to back-office systems and dedicated software for tracking both the traceability of products and materials, as well as key sustainability indicators such as carbon footprint, water footprint, and the percentage of recycled content, including its origin and source.

It addresses the critical issue of transparency in traditional supply chains, where a lack of visibility often leads to unsustainable or ethically questionable practices. The solution is essential for facilitating traceability and promoting sustainability, which are crucial for the transition to a circular economy. The impact of CircularTrust is multifaceted: socially, it promotes ethical practices; environmentally, it ensures the responsible sourcing of materials and reduces emissions; and economically, it helps businesses comply with regulations and build consumer trust in an increasingly eco-conscious market. The project is closely aligned with the European Union’s sustainability goals and the principles of the 4Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle, recover).

Blue Room Innovation, one of the developers and members of CircularTrust network, brings extensive expertise in traceability and sustainability, particularly in the integration of blockchain technologies with existing supply chain management systems. This expertise enables our company to effectively tackle the challenges associated with the project, ensuring data integrity and security while guiding and educating partners in adopting these new technologies. Additionally, Blue Room strong commitment to sustainability and active participation in European working groups (like Cirpass) underscore our capability to lead projects that are in line with the challenge’s objectives.

Circulartrust is currently at TRL 7, signifying that the solution has been successfully validated in an operational environment. We are in an advanced phase, with the product fully functional, and are continuously refining and adapting it for different sectors through targeted pilot projects.

We are actively seeking partnerships with companies within the packaging supply chain that are interested in implementing traceability solutions for their products and materials, and start they traceability by piloting in an open innovation environment. There is considerable potential for collaboration with recyclers to improve the traceability of the waste they handle. We also see a valuable opportunity to work with manufacturers who could leverage digital passports for their packaging, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability. Moreover, we are eager to form collaborations with organizations in the recycling sector that are interested in developing sophisticated traceability projects. In Spain, we work with Ecoembes, the organization responsible for extended producer responsibility for packaging, on similar initiatives, which has provided us with substantial expertise in the packaging industry. Regarding financing, we are open to exploring various avenues, including grants, public and private funding, and strategic partnerships with clusters and other relevant entities
