Pilot scale fermentation
Group Leader of the Bioconversion Group at Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB)
Potsdam, Germany
About
The construction of a pilot facility with 450 litres of fermentation vessel size for production of lactic acid at the ATB consequently fills a gap in the various phases of bioprocess engineering from applied fundamental research through application research to the launch of biotechnological processes in practice. The scale-up of the entire process and the provision of product samples is intended to open up the possibility of interesting partners in industry with specific product requirements in the various applications. With regard to several projects during the last years it will be feasible from the technological point to adapt the existing equipment to a wider range of raw materials like wood to optimize the process performance.
