Langhe DOC Nascetta
About
"The great white wine from Langhe". The variety Nascetta is the only indigenous white from the Langhe region. An extinct grape brought back at the beginnings of the '90s. Almost wiped out by phylloxera at the beginning of the 1900s she was retrieved by few winemakers from Novello. In 2010 the DOC was born and as of today it's cultivated in the southern area of Piemonte, from Santo Stefano Belbo to the Alta Langa region. 42 winemakers for 230.000 bottles total production. It's a complex white meant for aging with a potential life span that goes from 10 to 15 years. Typically mineral, aromatic with medium acidity; you can find different identities depending on the soil where it's planted and the winemaker style.
We started producing it in 2015 as the first winery white. We favour a simple approach to it, short maceration on skins in the press and cold fermentation after flotation. Stailess steel aging for about 10 months with batonage for the first 4 months. When young at the nose we have exotic fruit, citrus, white peach and aromatic hints that reminds a little bit of Vermentino and Sauv Blanc; in the palate mineral and salty with a complex texture, long with almost white tannins. After a couple of years in the bottle the fruits tend to fade away making room for oil and petrol flavours that reminds us of Rieslings. Medium acidity.
You can find our Nascetta already in Japan, US (NY,NJ) and Canada (Alberta).
