About

Whiffle operates and develops an extremely high-resolution weather model, based on Large-Eddy Simulation (LES), which can produce short-term forecasts for wind speed, solar irradiance or any other meteorological variable on a very fine scale. The forecasts are further optimized by machine learning algorithms and optimal blending with other weather sources to produce accurate short-term wind- and solar power production forecasts.

Whiffle’s model can capture wind turbine wake effects, increases the forecast accuracy in complex terrains and incorporates all effects from the surroundings. Furthermore, the cloud resolving atmospheric model can accurately capture local clouds in all their varieties, and coupled to detailed calculations of the solar radiation, our technology can produce realistic forecasts of solar irradiance at unprecedented resolution. This unique and precise information is used and further optimized by machine learning algorithms to produce more accurate wind- and solar power production forecasts which can fully tailored to the customers’ needs.

  • Forecast the weather on a resolution < 100m

  • Captures wakes, low-level jets, stability, fog, and cloud formations, even in complex terrain

  • Intraday updates

  • Probabilistic and deterministic forecasts

  • Asset, park or portfolio level - Real-time observation ingestion
