Welcome to the Institute of Translation Studies

We are the only university-level centre in the Czech Republic that trains translators and interpreters in the comprehensive BA and follow-up MA programmes in six languages – Czech, English, French, German, Russian and Spanish.

With approximately 350 students and 35 permanent and part-time staff members, our school ranks among the largest teaching and research departments at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts.

The majority of our staff members are practising translators and interpreters. They rank among the translators of famous literary works as well as key documents of the European Union. Many of our teachers of interpreting are accredited as conference interpreters at EU institutions.

We are a member of the International Permanent Conference of University Institutes of Translators and Interpreters (CIUTI), an international quality label for schools teaching translation and interpreting world-wide.
