The Gambia Tourism Board was established by an act of Parliament and Mandated not only to promote and market tourism in The Gambia but also to regulate all activities including the registration and licensing of businesses, and allocation of land for investment with the Tourism Sector.
The organization is also responsible for the coordination of infrastructure projects such as roads, water and sewage as well as electricity within delineated tourism development areas in the Gambia.
Baboucarr Loum, born in a small rural village in the Gambia in April 1986, has embarked on a remarkable life journey marked by resilience, determination, and a deep commitment to public health and community well-being.
His educational journey began at Kassa Kunda Primary School and culminated at Nusrat Senior Secondary School, where he completed his high school education, laying the foundation for his lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
Baboucarr Loum's professional career in public health commenced in January 2009 when he joined the Ministry of Health as an Assistant Public Health Officer. Through hard work and dedication, he climbed the ranks to become a Senior Public Health Officer, making significant contributions to community health.
In January 2019, Baboucarr embarked on a new chapter by joining the Gambia Tourism Board as the Manager of the Quality Control Unit. He has also taken on the role of Project Coordinator within the organization, leading fundraising efforts and managing a diverse array of projects, exemplifying his commitment to driving positive change.
In addition to his professional achievements, Baboucarr pursued a graduate degree in Global Health Policy at Brandeis University, enhancing his knowledge at the intersection of public health and environmental sustainability.
Today, Baboucarr Loum stands as a symbol of lifelong learning, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the Gambia and the world. As he continues to excel in his role at the Gambia Tourism Board and serve as a dynamic Project Coordinator, he is dedicated to improving public health and promoting environmental sustainability, impacting communities on both local and global scales.
