HORIZON-CL6-2025-02-FARM2FORK-13: Raising citizen awareness on alternative proteins derived from biotechnology
About
The technological development of alternative protein production is one of the approaches to overcoming the anticipated global protein shortage in the coming decades. So far, significant results have been achieved in obtaining plant and microbial proteins, as well as proteins from algae and insects. Researchers from the Center also have numerous publications in this field. Some alternative proteins have already been approved for use in EU member states. Currently, there is a need to support public understanding and awareness regarding the use of alternative proteins and to contribute to counteracting misinformation in this area. In this regard, the Center has researchers with the necessary expertise and knowledge for educational interventions and the dissemination of information about the transition to diets based on alternative protein sources. We maintain professional contacts with all stakeholders, including citizens, civil society organizations, business organizations, ministries, universities, and scientific institutions from Bulgaria, who actively engage in these initiatives.
In this regard, we express our willingness to join a consortium that will develop a proposal on this topic.
